Bride looking at her young son

John and Shannon – The Crown and Thistle, Abingdon

Abingdon is only 20 minutes up the road from where I live yet I’ve never explored the place. On the 8th of April 2023, I had the opportunity to capture the beautiful celebration of John and Shannon in this picturesque little town.

John had originally approached me a year before to shoot their wedding and although, at the time, it was something that I knew that I wanted to explore, I hadn’t yet made any real progress to getting into wedding photography so I knew that I had to take the opportunity. Having worked along side James before and due to the proximity of Harry’s arrival, I asked James to come with me just in case I had to leave quickly – since I didn’t, we were able to trial a photographer / videographer combination which I think worked really well! I’ll add the video James made below the gallery but in the future this is something that we’d like to do together.

The Crown and Thistle was a great venue which had everything you could possibly need within it. The rooms looked great, the outdoor area was central and the function room was both spacious and well lit. From a photography point of view, it was a great place to get photos! There’s also some great locations within walking distance to The Crown and Thistle to get more photos, we got group photos at Trendell’s Folly and we even got some great photos of John and Shannon on the rooftop of the Abingdon County Hall Museum!

It was clear to see that everybody was having a great time and there’s not much more you could ask for at a wedding – Everybody was incredibly warm and welcoming and you could tell this was a celebration that everybody had been waiting for!
